About Helaine Blumenfeld
Helaine Blumenfeld is an American sculptor who grew up in Jamaica Estates, Queens. She is known for her large-scale public sculptures in marble, bronze, granite, and other materials.
She received a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in political philosophy at Columbia University. She then studied art in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière under the sculptor Ossip Zadkine. She held her first solo exhibition, a group of polished bronzes, in 1966 at the Palais Pálffy in Vienna.
Blumenfeld has created more than 90 large-scale sculptures for private and public clients, and her work has been shown in more than 70 exhibitions worldwide. She served as vice president of the Royal Society of Sculptors from 2004 to 2009 and was the first woman to be awarded the prestigious Pietrasanta and Versilia in the World award. In 2011, Blumenfeld was awarded an honorary OBE for services to the arts. She is represented by Hignell Gallery, London.
