Jewish Life Faculty and Staff
Members of Fordham staff and faculty are welcome to join Jewish Life events for any learning opportunities including our B'Mitzvah program, our monthly communal Shabbat dinners, holiday gatherings, and more. Please join our network and subscribe to our e-newsletter to stay up to date on all things Jewish at Fordham!
As Fordham's Jewish chaplain and campus rabbi, and as former tenured faculty herself, Rabbi Katja Vehlow (she/her) is available for confidential rabbinic conversations in person, via zoom, or on the phone. If you are facing a crisis, are looking for a listening ear or would simply like to have a chat, you can contact her at [email protected], via CentralRam or call her at 212-636-6405.
Jewish Text Group
The Jewish texts group is a meeting of Jewish and non-Jewish faculty and staff who gather for spirited, convivial conversation over Jewish texts, broadly interpreted. In the past we have studied a wide gamut of sources, ranging from Levinas’ Talmudic Readings, to Scholem’s writings on mysticism, to selections from the Hebrew Bible and Talmud, to modern Torah commentary.
We meet three times each semester, and our first meeting will be held on September 26 from 11:45-1:00 in LL413 at the LC campus. For that meeting, we will focus on six short poems by Jewish and non-Jewish poets that have been included in the current Reform Jewish high holiday prayer book. A delicious Middle Eastern Lunch will be served, sponsored by the Center for Jewish Studies. It should be a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, new and old. All faculty and staff are welcome!
Please RSVP to Jason Morris ([email protected]). Please also let us know if you can come, but only over Zoom, and we will send you a link.
We look forward to seeing you!
Jason Morris (Natural Sciences) and Karina Hogan (Theology)
