2024 Thematic Framework

Urban Plunge Students in Garden 2For 31 years, has given students the tools to be active members of their communities for the entirety of their college career and beyond.

This year’s theme explores a pursuit to: establish, nourish, and flourish.

We will encourage students to embrace New York as not just their campus, but also their home. By uprooting and deconstructing the harmful preconceived notions imposed on New York City, we are able to plant the seeds of social change. Urban Plunge plants this seed through hands-on engagement and historical exploration, allowing students to establish an identity at Fordham that is grounded in empathy and social justice.

We also aim to create a foundation where incoming students have a space where their truest selves can unfold and blossom without prejudice. Connecting with our roots — our innate selves — will allow our students to engage in this new world with curiosity and a discerning eye.

Students, in turn, will feel empowered to nourish a love-in-action approach to new experiences, branching out into New York City and making meaningful relationships with their community and each other. Urban Plunge aims to reach those who lie on the margins, ensuring that nobody’s story is ignored, dismissed, or diminished.

As a result of our programming, we hope that Urban Plunge empowers our students to flourish both at Fordham and beyond with a renewed sense of mission where equity, dignity, and compassion inform their thoughts and actions. Together, with an ever-blooming growth mindset, we aim to have a meaningful, long-lasting impact on our communities.
