On November 9th, 2024, Puerto Rico’s Capitol Building will come alive with voices committed to advancing climate action and community development. The Encuentro Comunitario para la Acción Climática y el Desarrollo Sostenible, an event of the Flourishing in Community Grantmaker Program at Fordham University, the Puerto Rican House of Representatives, and SOMOS, is set to bring together policymakers, environmental advocates, community leaders, and non-profit organizations to explore innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
The event will focus on the critical intersections of climate action, community resilience, and development. Participants will share ideas, foster collaboration, and identify sustainable funding pathways to support grassroots initiatives across the region. This convening offers an opportunity for leaders to unite on common goals, strategize on maximizing available resources, and address climate challenges.
To further support this effort, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College will be generating a report documenting the discussions, initiatives, and best practices presented during the event. This report will serve as a crucial resource to inform policy-making, while also highlighting ongoing efforts in the region and identifying ways to enhance and support these initiatives. The findings will offer actionable insights for stakeholders and policymakers, ensuring that local solutions are amplified and supported at every level of governance.
