Senior Vice President, Education Equity & Justice and Opportunity at United Way of New York City. She previously held various leadership positions in city government, including at the Mayor’s Office of Operations, the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit, and the Department of Correction. She was the Chief of Staff at New York ACORN where she led the field campaign for home-based
childcare providers to unionize and join the United Federation of Teachers. América holds BS in Physics and Environmental Studies and MS in Atmospheric Science and Technological Management Systems. Although a native of Spain, América has grownup around the world, including Central America, Africa and the Middle East.
