Economic Development, Labor Economics and Economics of Migration

Alfredo Cuecuecha Mendoza received his doctoral degree in economics from Boston University in 2004. He specializes in Economic Development, Labor Economics and Economics of Migration. He received a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Toledo, Ohio in 1996. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Economics from Universidad de las Américas Puebla. His doctoral dissertation is named Mexican Migration to the US: Theory and Evidence, which received the 1st place at doctoral level research from the prestigious National Prize of Economics granted by BANAMEX in 2004. His research also earned honor mentions in the Víctor L. Urquidi 2005 competition, organized by El Colegio de México; and the Manuel Noriega 2011 competition, organized by the Central Bank of Guatemala. He received scholarships from the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT) and the Ford-Hewlett Packard- McArthur Foundation to carry out his doctoral studies. He received a scholarship from University of Toledo, Ohio to carry out his master studies. He also earned the prestigious Mary Street Jenkins scholarship to carry out his Bachelor Degree studies. He has published three books and numerous papers in both international and Mexican journals and editorials. His last publication is the book published in 2015 Censo de Puntos de Acceso al Sistema Financiero en el Estado de Tlaxcala coauthored with Dr. Ramos Montalvo from El Colegio de Tlaxcala. His last international journal publication is The Impact of Remittances on Investment and Poverty in Ghana published by World Development in 2013. His last article published in an academic journal is El impacto de las remesas sobre tres diferentes indicadores de la pobreza en Guatemala published by EconoQuantum in 2014. He is currently member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers Level II and serves as President of El Colegio de Tlaxcala, A.C., a research institution in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala.
