The Research Unit on Social Justice and Policy of the Center for International Policy Studies is proud to announce a talk - 'Rising Profitability and the Middle Class Squeeze' - by Professor Edward Wolff at Rose Hill Campus Fordham University.

Edward N. Wolff, Ph.D., is professor at New York University, where he has taught since 1974. He received his AB degree from Harvard University in 1968 and his PhD from Yale University in 1974. He is also a Senior Scholar at the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College, a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a council member of the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth since 1987.He served as Managing Director of the Review of Income and Wealth from 1987 to 2004 and was a Visiting Scholar at the Russel Sage Foundation in New York (2003-04) and the President of the Eastern Economics Association (2002 - 2003).

His principal research areas are productivity growth and income and wealth distribution. He is the author (or co-author) of: Growth, Accumulation and Unproductive Activity (1987); Productivity and American Leadership (1989); Competitiveness, Convergence and International Specialization (1993); TOP HEAVY: A Study of Increasing Inequality of Wealth in America (1995, 1996, 2002); Economics of Poverty, Inequality and Discrimination (1997, 2009); Downsizing in America (2003); Does Education Really Help? (2006); and the Transformation of the American Pension System: Was it Beneficial for Workers? (2011)

The talk will be on Wednesday, May 2nd at the Music Room, 2nd Floor McGinley from 4 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.

On Thursday, 28th of April 2011, Prof. Amy E. Schwartz will give a very informative and interesting presentation titled, "Do Small Schools Improve Performance in Large, Urban Districts? Causal Evidence from New York City" at Fordham University, Rose Hill Campus.

Prof. Schwartz is the Director of the NYU Institute of Education and Social Policy. She is also Professor of Public Policy, Education and Economics at the Wagner School and Steinhardt School, NYU.

An Applied Economist, her research focuses on issues in urban policy, education policy and housing. The distinguished professor's current projects focus on issues of student mobility, immigration and the relationship between current housing crisis and student outcomes.

The talk will be held at the Flom Auditorium, Walsh Library from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

On November 3rd 2011, Dr. Alexander van Tulleken MD DTMH IDHA MPH gave an IPED lecture on the Functions of Humanitarian Assistance - Dafur, Sudan Case Study.

He recently joined Fordham’s Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) as its new Helen Hamlyn Senior Fellow. Van Tulleken has conducted aid work in Darfur, Russia, Peru and the Congo, and comes to Fordham from the University of Toronto, where he was a senior resident at Massey College.

He earned his medical degree in 2002 at Oxford, and completed a master’s degree in public health in 2009 at Harvard, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. In 2005, he earned an International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance.

The Senior Head of Research of the Human Development Report Office, Dr. Francisco Rodriguez, will on Wednesday 4th of May 2011 give a presentation on "The Human Development Report 2010" at Fordham University, Rose Hill Campus.

Dr. Rodriguez has a PhD in Economics from Harvard University and has held faculty positions at the University of Maryland, the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración and Wesleyan University. From 2000 to 2004 he served as Chief Economist to the Venezuelan National Assembly. He has published more than forty research papers in economics and public policy publications including the Journal of Economic Growth, NBER Macroeconomics Annual, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Economics and Politics and Foreign Affairs.

The presentation will be at the Flom Auditorium, Walsh Library from 5 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.
