M.A. in Economics Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply for an M.A. degree without an Economics major.
Yes. To be successful in our program, however, you should complete the minimum requirements listed on the Course and Degree Requirements page.
Can I apply for the M.A. degree with a three year B.A. or B.S. degree?
Yes. So long as you have a diploma (in-hand or forthcoming) from an accredited university for your B.A. or B.S., you are eligible to apply.
Do you offer funding or graduate assistantships?
At this time, unfortunately, we are unable to offer funding or graduate assistantships for M.A. students.
How fast can I complete the degree?
If you take four courses each semester and two courses in the summer, you can complete the M.A. degree in one calendar year (12 months).
Is there a time limit on completing the degree?
You can complete the degree on a part time basis with one or two courses per semester and summer. There is a time limit of 5 years from start to finish of the M.A. degree.
Do you offer job placement services?
We have a career placement office that organizes twice yearly career fairs and we have a network of Fordham M.A. Economics alumni in NYC, across the US, and abroad, who can help find placements and provide advice.
Do you have a cut-off for GRE scores or GPA?
No. We consider each application as a whole and read letters of recommendation and statements of purpose carefully.
Do I have to take your required courses at Fordham?
In general, yes. Please see the GSAS policy handbook for more details.
Is your CIPS code STEM compatible?
Our M.A. degree in economics is designated as a STEM program.. Currently our CIPS code allows two years of OPT extension for international students.
