Learning Goals

Students who complete the M.A. In English will be able to:

  • perform persuasive literary analysis that demonstrates strong close reading, makes apt use of theoretical approaches, and locates a strong argumentative voice within a critical conversation
  • write rhetorically compelling scholarship that demonstrates precision, creativity, and rigor
  • develop a fuller understanding of research strategies and practices
  • acquire broad knowledge across literary periods, regions, and styles and situate their learning along axes of difference and intersectionality
  • gain confidence, skills, and experience relevant to a range of academic and professional career pathways
