Fellowships Outside Fordham IPED's Network

Applicants to Fordham University's Graduate Program in International Political Economy and Development (IPED) are encouraged to do their own research on available fellowships outside of Fordham IPED's network. Below are some fellowships to consider. This list is not exhaustive of all available fellowships external to Fordham IPED.

Fordham IPED is not affiliated with any of these organizations. Please get in touch with them directly for questions related to their scholarship grants. Give special attention to application deadlines as they may be earlier than expected.

US Citizens
Payne International Development Fellowship seeks to attract outstanding individuals who are interested in pursuing careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Provides up to $96,000 in benefits over two years for graduate school.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Graduate Scholarships awards two Graduate Scholarships for master’s degree students who are enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. institution in any major.

CIA Graduate Scholarship Program is a financial needs based initiative that offers graduate students a scholarship to attend an accredited college/university on a full-time basis and work during summer breaks at the Agency. Grants up to $18,000 for promising graduate students, particularly minorities and people with disabilities, who are beginning the first or second year of any master’s degree. 

Harry S. Truman Scholarship funds students in their junior year who seek to transition into a master’s program. Eligible scholars must commit to working in the public interest or advocacy sector of government as “change agents” for three of the first seven years following their funded master’s degree. Grants up to $30,000 annually.

Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program Granting a $30,000 stipend and $13,755 institutional payment, the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program is operated by the U.S. Department of Education for excellent graduate students pursuing a terminal master’s or doctoral degree at a regionally accredited institution. Selected fields of study include theatre, studio arts, music, creative writing, foreign language, history, linguistics, religion, sociology, psychology, economics, public policy, etc.

Soros Fellowship for New Americans provide $20,000 college scholarships for master’s programs to children of immigrants, naturalized citizens, green card holders, and DACA recipients attending accredited U.S. graduate schools.

The Beinecke Scholarship Program selects around 20 college juniors each year who are motivated to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. degree in any major within the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Scholars receive $4,000 immediately and an additional $30,000 while attending an accredited grad school. 

The Rangel Graduate Fellowship is a program that aims to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. The program awards fellowships of up to $37,500 annually for a two year period for tuition, room, board, books and mandatory fees for completion of two-year master’s degrees. This program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need. 

The Thomas R. Pickering Fellowship seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people, based on financial need, who represent ethnic, gender, social, and geographic diversity and have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State. The program awards up to $37,500 annually for a two-year period for tuition, room, board, books, and mandatory fees for completion of two-year master’s degrees. 

Non-US Citizens
The American Association of University Women International Fellowship is awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are supported.

The Civil Leadership Awards provide fully-funded scholarships for master’s degree study to individuals who clearly demonstrate academic and professional excellence and a deep commitment to leading positive social change in their communities.

The PEO International Peace Scholarship is a program that provides scholarships for selected women from other countries for graduate study in the United States and Canada. The maximum amount awarded to a student is $12,500.
