Fordham IPED and CARITAS Internationalis hosted a UN Side Event on September 17, 2019, entitled "Climate Change and Bread Basket Failures." The event featured the 2019 edition launch of Fordham's Pope Francis Global Poverty Index.

Public Release of the 2019 Fordham Francis Index
Prof. Henry Schwalbenberg, Ph.D., presented the findings of the 2019 Fordham Francis Index. The Fordham University’s Pope Francis Global Poverty Index is a multi-dimensional poverty index that monitors recent global trends in Food, Water, Housing, Employment, Education, Gender Equity and Religious Freedom. Prof. Schwalbenberg is the director of the Graduate Program in International Political Economy and Development at Fordham University
Keynote Presentation: Climate Change and the Potential Risk of Multiple Bread-Basket Failures
Prof. Andrew Simons, Ph.D., commented on the recent UN IPCC report on Climate Change and Land. Prof. Simons teaches Agriculture and Development at the Graduate Program in International Political Economy and Development at Fordham University. He holds an MPA in International Development from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University. He is an expert in Economic Development, Social Innovation and Environmental Economics. Prior to his academic career, Prof. Simons worked as a development practitioner in Ethiopia and Honduras in various senior level management positions with two faith based NGOs
