Supporting Undergraduate Students with Marginalized Identities

The Psychology Department is committed to improving existing support for our undergraduate majors and minors, particularly those who come from backgrounds historically underrepresented on college campuses. This task force involves a team of undergraduate and graduate students, along with faculty members, who aim to propose and carry out a series of proposals related to this topic. As one example of their work, this task force has created a pilot program for peer mentoring in Psychology that will run in Spring 2024. Undergraduate students interested in a Psychology major or minor who hold any historically underrepresented or minoritized identity will be able to sign up to be mentored by either a more advanced undergraduate student in Psychology, or a graduate student in one of our graduate programs.

Decolonizing Departmental Syllabi and Course Offerings

Fordham offers a set of guidelines for incorporating the principle of decolonization into our research, teaching, and pedagogy (you can read more about those guidelines here). A Psychology DEI task force is considering this set of guidelines, alongside other readings on these principles of decolonization, to discuss ways that Psychology Departments can shift course offerings, content, descriptions, and/or syllabi to be more diverse, inclusive, and equitable.
