Recording Online Synchronous Course Components
Here are basic guidelines for recording online, synchronous course components:
- Instructors do not need to obtain student consent to record an online, synchronous class session (for example, in order to upload it to the course site on Blackboard) as long as the recording is not shared outside the class;
- Students are not allowed to record online, synchronous class sessions, unless the Office of Disability Services informs you as an instructor that a particular student has an approved accommodation that requires recording; in that case, faculty cannot deny the student the right to record;
- No one, including faculty and students, is allowed to share the recorded content outside the course without the consent of all the members of the group;
- The University will not make use of live session recordings for any purposes such as evaluation of instruction, investigating allegations of misconduct, or other non-instructional purposes.
