Dr. Michael Greenspan

Dr. Michael Greenspan is the program director for the Psychiatry Residency Training Program at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He received his B.A. (with majors in biology and economics) and M.D. at Yale University, and thereafter completed psychiatry residency training and forensic fellowship training at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Greenspan’s work at Northwell has included being faculty lead for the Nassau County Emergency Services Unit (ESU) police de-escalation training, as well as sitting on the steering committee for the Northwell Center for Gun Violence Prevention. He is an active member of several committees in the American Association of Psychiatry and the Law and the American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training. His academic interests include the management of violence and medical education.
Prior to joining Northwell, Dr. Greenspan was associate program director of the forensic psychiatry fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. His forensic work has included consultation for the NYS Division of Forensic Services/Office of Mental Health (particularly around risk management for both violent and sexual offenses), consultation for court-related diversion programs, and both criminal and civil evaluation. He has presented at national conferences on forensic issues including asylum, violence risk management, landmark legal cases, and hunger strikes.
