Faculty Research Orientation – October 11, 2023

 

Led by Office of Sponsored Programs Director Rebeca Franco, the annual Faculty Research Orientation presented information regarding OSP services on October 11, 2023. Faculty heard from OSP, Office of Finance, and Office of Development staff on a variety of topics related to applying for and winning grants, along with procedures for disbursement and reimbursement of grant funds.

 


Fordham-IBM Workshop on Generative AI – October 27, 2023

On the Rose Hill campus in Walsh Library on October 27, 2023, attendees heard presentations on a variety of topics related to Generative AI. Organized by the Office of Research and Fordham’s Computer and Information Science department, well over 50 people attended to hear remarks from Provost Dennis Jacobs and from keynote speaker J. R. Rao, Ph.D, chief technology officer of IBM Security Research at the T. J. Watson Research Center. The Fordham news coverage for this event is available at this link.

NIH Grants Application Forum – November 3, 2023

 

Two former Grants Officers from the National Institutes of Health came to Fordham’s Law School to give suggestions and field questions from Fordham faculty and researchers on applying for NIH grants. The two speakers were Drs. Dennis Glanzman and Yuan Liu.

 


Global Studies Consortium Forum – December 7, 2023

“Global in the Local: Socioeconomic Inclusion and Community Empowerment”

An audience of faculty, staff, and students heard a variety of views on the topics of inclusion and empowerment of marginalized people throughout the world. Keynote speaker Dr. Hirokazu Yoshikawa of NYU’s talk was on “Forced Displacement, Participatory Action, and Community Empowerment: Learning from Rohingya Children and Caregivers.” Discussants Dr. Sarah Eltantawi and Dr. Sarah Lockhart delivered their reflections on Dr. Hirokazu’s research with Dr. Yuko Miki serving as moderator of the segment immediately following the keynote address. The Forum was organized by the Fordham Strategic Research Consortium on Global Studies and facilitated by its three co-directors, Drs. Fuhua Zhai, Aseel Sawalha, and Yuko Miki.
