Financial Conflict of Interest in Research

Effective August 24, 2012, the Public Health Service, the umbrella agency which includes Fordham funders such as NIH, SAMHSA and the CDC, has adopted a revised, more stringent Financial Conflict of Interest Policy in regards to any research project under the PHS. Fordham University has opted to adopt these guidelines for all externally-funded projects, regardless of the sponsor.

Fordham's Office of Sponsored Programs and Office of Legal Counsel have developed a Policy on Financial Conflict of Interest in Externally-Sponsored Research. Please use the link to the left to review our policy.

Additionally, a Disclosure Form has been developed; please use the link to the left to access the form.

Finally, one of the requirements of the PHS policy is training, which must occur prior to expending any grant dollars, and must be updated at least every four years. Fordham offers two choices for training. One is the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) "Conflict of Interest in Human Subject Research" training module. Please follow these Instructions for Registering and Completing CITI Course if you have not already done so. After registration, you will need to select “Add a Course or Update Learner Groups” to take the training. The other option is the National Institutes of Health Office of Extramural Research training program at https://grants.nih.gov/grants/policy/coi/tutorial2018/story_html5.html. Either option will allow you to save a certificate of your training for your files.
