A fellowship is a funded opportunity for research, graduate work, professional opportunities, or experiences abroad. Visit our fellowships listings to locate fellowships that are right for you. Fellowships are also called “awards” or “scholarships.”

Each fellowship has its own qualifications. Once you have selected a fellowship that matches your interests, visit the fellowship’s official website and view the eligibility requirements. If you’re eligible, speak with us to see if it’s a good fit for you. If it isn’t a good fit, we may be able to suggest one that is!

Almost all applications require personal statements and/or project proposals, transcripts, and recommendation letters. We offer support every step of the way, including but not limited to working with you through multiple revisions of your essay(s). Please note that we usually begin the application process six months prior to the national deadlines. We may have interim campus deadlines.

It is never too early to reach out to our office. Whether you are an undergraduate (even in your first or second year!), a graduate student, or alum, we are here to speak with you about awards. To schedule a meeting, email [email protected].

Some awards (e.g., Truman, Goldwater, Marshall, and Rhodes) require an endorsement, or nomination letter, from the university. These letters help to introduce the applicant to the award’s selection committees and to emphasize the applicant’s suitability for the award. Yes, you can apply for multiple awards, although it is important for you to consider how much time you can commit to each application process. If you are thinking about applying for more than one simultaneously, our office can help you make that decision.

Strong letters of recommendation are an important part of your application, and many fellowship websites will provide specific information on the type of recommendation that is required. Read the guidelines carefully. In general, you should consider professors who can speak to your academic abilities in class or who have guided your research. Supervisors of service projects, relevant jobs, and internships can also be good choices depending on the award you are pursuing.

Yes, as long as you still fulfill the eligibility requirements for a given fellowship. It is not  uncommon to apply more than once.
