Desmond C.B. Lyons
Adjunct Professor of Business Law
Desmond C.B. Lyons is a full-time litigator and outside general counsel to nonprofits and other domestic and international entities. As a founding partner of a leading Westchester law firm, Lyons has been recognized by his peers for many years as a Super Lawyer for his work in the greater New York metropolitan area. In his more than 25 years of practice, he has litigated and tried cases at every level in local, state, and federal court; appellate courts; and administrative tribunals. Lyons is a member of the Westchester County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association Federal and Commercial Litigation Section. He also serves on the President’s Committee on Access to Justice and is chair of the New York State Constitution Simplification Committee. Lyons is the immediate past chair of the Westchester Committee of the Federal Bar Council and serves on its Second Circuit Courts Committee. He also has served on the Southern District’s Federal Magistrate Merit Selection Panel.
Since 2010, Lyons has served as the village justice for the Village of Irvington, New York . In this role, he presides over hundreds of criminal and civil matters each year. Lyons also serves as an accessible magistrate in Westchester County and has served as acting City Court judge for the City of White Plains, acting town judge for the Town of Greenburgh, and acting village justice in the Village of Mamaroneck.
Lyons teaches in the Law and Ethics Area at Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business.
He is involved in many charitable organizations and recently was awarded the Dave Wade Heart of Gold Award by Abbott House, a nonprofit that serves families with complex needs.
As a first-generation American, Lyons is also involved in several organizations that seek to strengthen the cultural and business ties between the United States and the Republic of Ireland.
