GSAS Graduate Student Council
Welcome!
The Graduate Student Council (GSC) serves as the official representative body for the students of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) at Fordham University. Through elected representatives and committee members, the GSC operates with two primary objectives:
- Advocate on behalf of the graduate students to the GSAS Deans and university wide administration; by serving in this liaison role to advocate for both academic and non-academic concerns, we attempt to embody the following tenets:
- Cura personalis as the call for individualized attention and care for one another as we go through graduate education
- Magis in the principle that challenges us to strive for ever-greater excellence in all aspects of life for ourselves and those we represent
- Service and humility that though we are in positions to make decisions, we ultimately carry the responsibility to represent all students
- Support student groups and individuals by working with the corresponding administrative offices to fund events, student-led activities, socials, professional development goals, conference travel, and summer research to the extent we can. Our call to organize a vibrant and diverse schedule each year across the campuses is aimed to foster community across all academic endeavors. Our specific responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the Student Support Grant grant process
- Supporting a variety of Charter Groups (e.g. Badminton Club, Graduate Film Group, LGBTQ+, and Minorities and Philosophy) as well as Affiliated Groups
- Organizing graduate student socials, facilitating the GSAS awards ceremony, and coordinating with GSAS on GSAS Futures events
