Core Competency 6

PFF participants will:

• Assess their teaching practice using student feedback (e.g. quantitative evaluations/SEEQs; informal feedback; teaching observations) and PFF experiences.


• Reflect on how they have met student learning outcomes in Core Competencies 1 through 5.


• Develop strategies for future teaching practice based on their assessment and reflection.

Core Competency 6 is fulfilled by completing a Capstone Project, which will be reviewed and approved by the student’s dissertation mentor, DGS, ACGS, or Departmental Placement Officer. The Capstone Project will encourage PFF participants to reflect on the entire PFF program and assess their teaching practice. It will also give participants who are seeking academic employment the opportunity to prepare materials for job applications.

Capstone Projects are constituted by two components:

• Teaching Portfolio: students will develop a comprehensive teaching portfolio in preparation for the academic job market. Individual departments will determine the nature of the required components of the portfolio, but suggested items include:
  • Statement of Teaching Philosophy
  
  
  • Summary and Statement of Undergraduate Research Mentoring
  
  
  • Documentation (quantitative and qualitative) of Student Evaluations
  
  
  • Diversity Statement
  
  
  • Sample Syllabi
  
  
  • Sample Assignments

• Reflection Statement: PFF participants will also prepare a Reflection Statement, in which they will:
  • Reflect on how they have met each of the student learning outcomes for Core Competencies 1 through 5.
  
  
  • Assess their teaching practice using student feedback (e.g. quantitative and qualitative measures; informal feedback; teaching observations) and PFF experiences. 

Develop strategies for future teaching practice based on assessment and reflection.
