Doctoral students who received a master's degree prior to admittance into the program may be exempt from all or part of the cognate requirement. Doctoral students who enter the program as certified school psychologists (i.e., advanced standing) are required to complete all program requirements including a full year of doctoral internship. In some cases, the doctoral student may be exempted from a program requirement by demonstrating competence in the areas covered by the requirement. Typically, even with exemptions, time to completion is not affected.
