TESOL and BIL Program GSE Grant
Are you a dynamic educator interested in obtaining a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Bilingual Education (BE) license? Look no further! Fordham Graduate School of Education is thrilled to offer fully online the Advanced Certificate programs in TESOL and BE.
Classes for both programs will begin in Fall 2024 semester, so we encourage you to take advantage now. By applying and being accepted for the Fall 2024 semester, you can expect to graduate by Summer 2025.

- Select Fall 2024 as the term.
- Then select Advanced Certificate as the Study Plan.
- And choose one of the following programs:

**Advanced Cert. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - Intensive Teacher Institute ESOL (NY State online)
*Advanced Cert. in Bilingual Education - Intensive Teacher Institute BE (NYC online)
**Advanced Cert. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - Intensive Teacher Institute ESOL (NYC-online)
In addition to completing the electronic application we require the following documents:
- Personal Statement
- Resume
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- Official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate level coursework.
If your transcripts are not in English or not on the U.S. grading scale, they must undergo a course-by-course evaluation conducted by one of the service providers listed on this webpage: https://www.naces.org/members. Transcript evaluations should be sent directly to us from the evaluation service to the GSE Admission Office (see address below).

Eligibility requirements for the TESOL/BE program include:
- Hold a NYS teaching certificate (Internship, Initial, Provisional, or Permanent) in any subject or grade level.
- Current employment as a teacher in a NYC or NYS DOE school
- Access to ENL or Bilingual students in your current school
- A GPA of at least 3.0 in undergraduate and graduate coursework
- If transcript review reveals any missing undergraduate pre-requirements (i.e., English literature; English Composition; a language other than English) these credits can be earned while in the Adv Certificate program. This requirement can be met by taking the missing courses at your local college before graduation, passing the CLEP exams, or the ACTFL exam. You must have 12 FL credits by the time you complete this program.
- For Bilingual Education Only: Academic fluency in a language other than English
Upon completion of the program, a passing score on the NYSTCE BEA (Bilingual) or CST in ESL is required for state certification.
