The College Application Process
You know what type—or types!—of college you are interested in, and you’ve made a list of the ones that meet your criteria. Maybe you’ve even visited some already to get a sense of what they’re like. Now comes the time to actually apply to those schools.
There’s a lot that goes into a college application, and it’s important to include as much information as you can to help the admission counselors get a full picture of who you are, your abilities, and your potential. Take advantage of all of the opportunities the college application gives you to share about yourself.
Almost all college applications include
- Your high school transcript
- A college application essay
- Letter(s) of recommendation
- Test scores, or an option to include your test scores

Apply for Financial Aid Too
College can be expensive, but there are often a variety of scholarships and grants available to help you bring down the cost of attendance and make it more affordable.
Keep in mind that applying for financial aid is a separate process. Fill out your financial aid applications along with your admissions applications to qualify for as much aid as possible.
Don’t Be Late
Be absolutely sure to meet all the application deadlines. You could have the best application, but if it’s not in on time, it might not matter.
