Interviewing
While the interview process varies for each University area, there are some standard steps that most Hiring Managers should follow. There are a few main components.
- Screening Applicants - Reviewing resumes and cover letters, verifying qualifications, assessing the candidate's experience and skills, and performing initial phone or video interviews.
- Scheduling Interviews - Once the Hiring Manager has narrowed down their choices, they should schedule interviews to have an in-depth conversation with each of the candidates.
- Arranging Meetings with Senior Management - If a candidate does well in their interview, the Hiring Managers may ask candidates to meet with upper management before making things official.
The steps during this period are known as the interview timeline.
* This step may happen sooner, but generally should not happen much later than this point in the timeline.
A quicker time-to-hire improves overall efficiency, but a positive candidate experience also improves quality of hire, and helps the University gain valuable talent.
