S: Drive Instructions

Overview

Fordham employees use the S: Drive to access and share files on University systems. 

Connect

On campus: Access using Fordham's secure network, "Fordham."

Off campus: Access using vpn.fordham.edu/Plus. Learn more about Fordham's VPN web page.

Getting started

Windows PC

  1. Open the File Explorer
    • Click the yellow folder icon, in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. 
    • Or, type "File Explorer" in the Windows search box, on the lower left of your screen
  2. In the File Explorer window that opens, in the left-hand navigation, select This PC.
  3. On the upper left, select the Computer tab (it may already be selected)
  4. From the menu bar (ribbon), select Map network drive
  5. The Map network drive dialogue box will ask, "What network folder would you like to map?" In the dropdown box, select the S: drive.
  6. In the Folder field, add the server name: \\ds.fordham.edu\dfs\Shared
  7. Click Finish. A login window will appear, requesting Fordham credentials. Enter your user name as FORDHAM\Username (i.e., FORDHAM\hpotter).

Access the drives for another session: 

  1. Open the File Explorer
    • Click the yellow folder icon, in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. 
    • Or, type "File Explorer" in the Windows search box, on the lower left of your screen
  2. In the window that opens, in the left-hand navigation, select This PC.
  3. Find the mapped S: drive under Devices and drives.

Mac OS

  1. Open Finder in the dock
  2. In the menu bar, in the upper left corner, select Go and Connect to Server
  3. In the Connect to Server dialogue box, type in the path of the desired network drive
    • To add the S: drive use: ds.fordham.edu/dfs/Shared
    • Click the plus (+) sign to add the desired server and save in the list of Favorite Servers
  4. Click Connect to access the desired drive.
  5. Select Registered User and enter your Fordham credentials. NOTE: It may be necessary to type in "Fordham/" before your Fordham username if your device is not migrated to the Active Directory.
  6. After logging into the server ds.fordham.edu via the VPN, a window will open that displays the S: drive. The drive can also be found in the Finder and on the desktop.
