The Division of Student Affairs invites you to join the LGBTQ and Ally Network of Support, a network open to all Fordham University community members who would like to demonstrate their active commitment to creating a campus environment that is open and welcoming to all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) students and their allies, in keeping with the Jesuit tenet of Cura Personalis (care for the whole person) and the principle that all persons should be treated with dignity and respect, which is explicit in Catholic teaching.

Goals
  • Promote an environment in which each member of the University community is welcomed and valued.
  • Promote an understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) students that is rooted in the Jesuit tenet of Cura Personalis and the principle that all persons should be treated with dignity and respect, which is explicit in Catholic teaching.
  • Promote an environment of inclusion within the University community through a network of trained students, faculty, and staff across Fordham who support our LGBTQ students, understand the unique challenges facing LGBTQ students, are aware of the appropriate resources, and sponsor education and awareness opportunities to challenge systemic discrimination, homophobia, heterosexism, and ignorance.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the training, participants should be able to:
  • Actively work toward promoting an environment in which each member of the University community is welcomed and valued.
  • Promote an understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) students that is rooted in Jesuit tradition and the principle that all persons should be treated with dignity and respect, which is explicit in Catholic teaching.
  • Identify and challenge behavior and language that is offensive and exclusive to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning students.
  • Be familiar with campus resources in order to make appropriate referrals.
  • Support and understand the unique challenges facing LGBTQ students on campus, and serve as a resource for those students.
  • Be willing to be recognized as a person who has participated in this training and joined the LGBTQ and Ally Network of Support.
