How to Apply to Study Abroad
The study abroad application process varies by program but all the information you need can be found right here on our website and in the Study Abroad Portal. You can search for a program based on location, majors offered, housing type, language, and more on our website here.
Be sure to have a conversation with your advisers to plan out which courses you should take while abroad. Most core classes cannot be taken abroad unless you are enrolling at Fordham London or Fordham in Granada. In general, major and minor electives can be taken abroad, but other major and minor specific requirements cannot unless they are offered as Fordham classes in London or Granada. Each department sets a limit on the number of classes that can be taken abroad. Additional information regarding course credit transfer can be found here.
You should consult with your academic adviser and academic department to confirm what types of classes can be taken abroad in your chosen program. You may find the Academic Planning Worksheet helpful in developing your academic plan for study abroad.
If you have any questions about the application process, please feel free to contact us or schedule an appointment online with a study abroad office staff member.

- Find your program and click "Apply Now." You can only apply to one program during an application cycle, so it is important for you to research your options well before starting an application.
- Complete the requirements in the Study Abroad Portal. Most applications include the following:
- Writing an essay
- Obtaining a recommendation from your academic advisor (FC students) or your class dean (GSB students)
- Obtaining a recommendation from a professor who has taught you in a class for your declared or intended major

You can find more information about application deadlines here.
Applications typically open in the Fall for the following academic year and there are typically more spaces available for Fall programs, so we recommend applying to a program for the Fall term when available.
Completed applications are typically reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in January for the following Summer and Fall programs. Spring application decisions are made after the final deadline in March. Spring applicants may be offered a place in a Fall program as capacity limits are reached.
Be sure to also review the full-term and short-term program guidelines.

We welcome visiting students from colleges and universities outside of Fordham to apply to our semester programs in London and Spain, and on our summer programs.
