Printing FAQs

  • Print Anywhere. When working within the Fordham network, you will be able to print from your laptop, desktop, tablet, or smart phone to any of our Canon MFDs in a Fordham facility. With only a single print queue, you won’t have to choose specific MFDs each time you print.

Release Anywhere. You can access your personal print queue on any Canon MFD.

Secure Print Release. Your prints are held securely in your own print queue which you can access on the web or when you badge-in with Fordham ID at any Canon MFD and only release the jobs that you want to print. This keeps your print jobs secure and reduces waste.

Decrease Costs and Environmental Footprint. If you send multiple versions of a document to an MFD, you can delete any versions you don’t want before printing--saving paper, toner, and energy.

Single User Interface. No matter where you are in Fordham, you will experience the same printing interface when using Canon MFDs.

  • Our new devices and software installations began on July 1, and will continue implementations at multiple sites per week until we have covered all Rose Hill, Lincoln Center, and Westchester locations.  For students, Canon MFDs will continue to be located in Fordham libraries, residence halls, and other easy-to-access public locations around campus.

  • $0.05 per black and white click, and $0.25 per  color click. A double sided b/w copy would cost $.10 and a double sided color copy would cost $.50.

  • Canon Solutions America supplies the printers. Printing is managed through the Papercut software.

  • Effective October 1st, 2024, Ram Print will be Fordham’s universal print solution and any request to purchase a printer must be made in accordance with the University Print Policy, which is being updated and will be shared soon.

  • Fordham and Canon professionals are responsible for assessing each environment and location across campus. Device size, type, speed, features, and location are based on standard criteria that include business requirements, average pages printed per month, and related industry standard metrics. This ensures that the appropriate device, device features, and related configuration items will meet individual departmental needs.

  • The Ram Print program includes shared multifunction devices. Some departments require special-purpose scanners or specialty printing devices such as plotters, check printers, hand-held printers, or other devices requiring non-standard supplies and servicing. These specialty printers are not included in the Ram Print program, but Departments should consult with Ram Print before purchasing these types of devices.

  • Superuser Training will be provided when your department transitions to Ram Print. Additional guides and training materials are available on fordham.edu/ramprint.

  • To retrieve your print jobs or to copy, scan or fax at a RAM Print device: Place your Fordham ID card over the card reader, or enter your ID and password on the screen. Next, choose what you would like to do (print, copy, scan, or fax). Easy to follow instructions to print, copy, scan, and fax are posted above each device on campus. There is also an option to scan the QR code on the printer and use  your mobile device to release a print job.

  • Primarily to ensure the security of your prints.  Using your ID badge or Fordham ID and password to print the document ensures that your printout can only be retrieved by you.   A document will not print until you log in at the device. You do not need to rush to a printer to pick up a sensitive document after you send it to print.

It also provides greater convenience. You can send a print to your print queue and access it at any Fordham MFD. It only takes a moment to swipe your badge at the device. If you forget your badge, you can still print by logging in with your mobile key (insert hyper) or network credentials at the device.

  • Yes, you can log in by touching the touchscreen where it says “touch here to begin,” and entering your Fordham ID and password.

  • The RAM Print program is accessible for Fordham University faculty, staff, contractors, and students with active Fordham affiliations. If you are an active faculty, staff, contractor, or student and your card is not allowing you access to RAM Print, here are some solutions and tips that can help:

Remove your card from your lanyard or wallet and place it on the card reader separately. The card reader may try to read other cards and this will cause interference.

You can always touch the screen to enter your Fordham ID and Password using the keypad provided.

  • To print from your mobile phone, log into print.fordham.edu or email an attachment to [email protected].

  • If your print job is interrupted while you are printing (i.e., paper jam, out of paper, or toner), and you are not able to correct the problem before the device logs out of your account, the job will be canceled for security reasons. To continue printing, you will need to resend your print job and use the print settings to start on the page where you left off.

  • No. USB devices are disabled to prevent write access to unencrypted USB storage devices. USB devices are also disabled to prevent the spread of malware via infected USB flash drives and other portable storage, per industry best practices.

  • If your department has provided you with a printing allowance, you will have the choice at the printer to charge the cost to your student account or department. If you are not given an allowance, your copies will be charged to your student account.

  • The document is held in a secure print queue and is deleted immediately after you release it to print on a device. If you do not print the document within 10 hours, it is automatically deleted by the system.

  • Black-and-white printing and double-sided printing are the default settings for the Print Program. To print a document in color or single-sided, change the print settings when you send the document to print.

  • Yes, you can print and copy in color from any RAM Print device. Please be mindful that the printing defaults are set to black and white as well as double sided in order to save on toner and paper waste, so you’ll want to ensure you select color and/or single sided before printing if it’s necessary for your print job.

  • What are the "default settings" and why are they mandatory?

Default settings are standard settings for the Print Program to support the environmental, financial, productivity, and end-user satisfaction goals. Through these settings, we may realize significant savings and efficiencies. The Print Program has the following default settings:

    Double-sided printing
    Black-and-white printing

These default settings reduce the costs and related supplies associated with single-sided printing and color printing.

  • Yes, on a print job-by-print job basis. These settings have a positive impact on Fordham and our environment and finances. However, all users will always have the option to manually override any of the settings on a print-by-print basis via the device properties.

  • Yes! You can use RamPrint to send a FAX directly from a Canon MFD. Log into the device and tap the Scan icon. Touch the + button to add a recipient. Enter the recipient’s information. Add 1 before the number in the fax number field.

  • Most RAM Print users automatically receive a RAM Print driver through Fordham's Endpoint Configuration Management service. If you do not have the driver, you can download one from the RAM Print website. See Papercut Client (Personal Device)

  • Although there is no Linux print driver available for RAM Print, you can print via the web at print.fordham.edu or email an attachment to [email protected]

  • When you use a Mac computer or a PC that is not Fordham domain-joined, you see an additional pop-up login screen at the beginning of each session. This pop-up appears after you log out of or restart your computer.

If you have a PC, you can have the computer joined to the Fordham domain. Consult your desktop support team to determine whether this is an option. Although there is no workaround for the Mac computer, our team is currently investigating a permanent solution to this issue.

  • Please refer to either the User Guide section on Scanning or the quick reference card located above any Canon MFD on campus.

  • If you are scanning a document to yourself or to someone in your address book: when the Scan and Send screen appears asking you to specify the scan's destination, select the 2-Sided Original button in the right column. If you are scanning a document to Box or Google Drive using the Scan to Cloud option: after you log in to Box or Drive and choose the file path, go to the Current Scan Settings section at the bottom of the screen and select the 1-Sided button to change it to 2-sided.
