Overview
Our Tech kiosks at the Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses provide students the ability to borrow a laptop for up to four hours for free. To borrow a laptop, visit a kiosk and follow the on-screen instructions.
Rose Hill Campus
- Kiosk location: McShane Student Center
- Devices: 24 laptops (Mac & Dell) and 12 Portable 110 V Chargers
Lincoln Center Campus
- Kiosk location: Lowenstein Hall, SL Southwest Corridor near the bookstore and ATM
- Available Devices: 12 Laptops (Mac & Dell)
Borrowing Guidelines
Once checked out, students are responsible for laptops.
- Users are responsible for the laptop and all its components and accessories while on loan.
- Never leave the laptop unattended.
- Users should not save any work on the laptop. Don't save data directly to the laptops, they are erased periodically. Instead, you may upload your work to cloud storage (e.g. Google Drive, OneDrive) or external storage (e.g. USB flash drive).
- Laptops are routinely wiped clean.
- Anti-virus software is installed on all laptops; the university is not responsible for any computer viruses that may be transferred during use.
- Do not rely on the laptop clock for the correct time.
- Keep all food and drink away from the laptop computer.
- Laptops must be returned to the same kiosk that it was checked out from. It can be returned to any slot on the kiosk from which they were checked out.
- There is no charge for borrowing a Laptop if the Laptop is returned within 4 hours. If you return the laptop after 4 hours you will be charged a late fee.
- You can only borrow one laptop at a time.
- You can only borrow 2 laptops maximum within a 24-hour period. If you borrow and return a laptop, you must wait 2 hours until you are allowed to borrow another.

This agreement addresses the loan of laptop computers to students at Fordham University. I agree to the following terms of use in checking out a laptop computer.
I understand that I must be currently enrolled as a student at Fordham University to borrow a laptop.
I understand that the laptop is the property of Fordham University, that it is being loaned for educational purposes, and that it must be returned in acceptable condition within 4 hours after checkout.
I understand that I am responsible for the general care of the laptop while it is checked out to me. I will take all reasonable precautions to protect it.
I understand that the laptop must be returned to the kiosk within 4 hours. I understand that late return of a laptop to the kiosk will result in a 10-minute grace period at $5, after that you will get a $40/hour late fee. If it is not received at the end of 4 days, you will be charged the full replacement cost of the laptop.

I understand that I am not allowed to lend out the laptop to others. If others use it while it is checked out to me and damage occurs, I understand that I will be held liable for any loss, damage, or criminal acts that may occur.
I understand that I must report to Fordham IT (718-817-3999) and Fordham Public Safety any loss, theft, or damage to the laptop.
I understand that I am not allowed to deface or destroy the laptop in any way, I am responsible for paying the cost of repairs to a damaged laptop. I am responsible for the cost of replacing a lost or stolen laptop.
I understand that I am not allowed to reinstall the Operating System, install additional software or copy software from the laptop.
I understand that I am not allowed in any way to format the hard drive
I understand that I am not allowed to make any modifications to the hardware or take apart the laptop or in any way remove components from the laptop such as the hard drive or memory.
I understand that I am not allowed to alter, remove, or cover the serial number and asset tag, or attempt to remove or change the physical structure of the device.
I understand that I am not allowed to attach stickers or make other personalizations to a laptop or laptop accessories. This is considered damage to the equipment
I understand that documents and other work created must be saved to external storage such as a USB flash drive, cloud storage, or to a personal email account. I understand that all files and downloads will be deleted when the laptop is rebooted or returned.
I agree to adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in licensing agreements including but not limited to licensing grant restrictions, copyright restrictions and transfer restrictions.
I understand that the laptop is wiped after each use and anything saved to the device will be erased. If I wish to save any data, it must be to an external USB drive or my network drive.
I understand that Fordham University is NOT responsible for loss of data or damage to files that may occur due to the use of the laptop computer.
I agree to abide by all Fordham University policies and procedures.
If you return the laptop after the 4-hour rental period, you will have a 10-minute grace period for which you will only be charged a $5 late fee. If the laptop is not returned within the grace period, you will be charged $40 per hour. If the laptop is not returned within 4 days, you will be charged the full replacement cost of the laptop, and this will be billed to your student account.

- After 10 minutes late: $40 per hour
- After 4 days: Full replacement cost of the laptop
Return the laptop as soon as you realize there is a problem with it. Please choose the displayed option that most closely describes the problem you had with the laptop. Then check out another laptop if available.
You are responsible for the loss or damage up to the total cost of the laptop per the Loaner Laptop Terms of Use you accepted when borrowing a laptop. If the loss is due to a theft, please report it to IT and Public Safety.
A laptop cannot be borrowed while it is in charging mode, if it was recently returned, or if it is damaged.
- Charging laptops will show up as yellow on the kiosk screen.
- To have a good experience with the device, and to provide you with a clean device, the kiosk performs functions such as deleting the previous user’s data and recharging the battery once a laptop is returned. This takes less than 15 minutes and during that time the kiosk device cannot be borrowed.
- Damaged devices will show up as yellow with a wrench icon. Damaged devices will be repaired and replaced as soon as possible.
Laptops are wiped clean of data to protect user’s privacy after each use, and any data on the laptops will no longer be available. You must copy and save your data on an external device, or cloud account before returning the laptop.
We recommend that you use an external storage device and save your work frequently that way. If the laptop reboots or runs out of power anytime during the allotted borrowing period all data is lost.
Laptop checkouts cannot be renewed. After you return the laptop to the kiosk, the kiosk performs functions such as deleting the previous user’s data and recharging the battery. This takes at least 15 minutes.
