Access to Other Libraries

The New York Public Library is one of the world’s great research libraries. Fordham students are eligible for free library cards. You need identification showing that you are a currently enrolled student.

The Central Research Library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street contains collections in the humanities and social sciences. The Science, Business and Industry Library is located at Madison Avenue and 34th Street. The Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts contains collections in theater, dance, music, and recordings. In addition, there are numerous important branch libraries, including:

• Early Childhood Resource & Information Center: 66 Leroy Street, NY, NY: Games, materials for young children.
• Hunt's Point: 877 Southern Blvd., Bronx, NY: Hispanic Studies.
• Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped: 40 West 20th Street, NY, NY
• Mid-Manhattan: 455 Fifth Ave., NY, NY: Business, Education, Job Information.

Newspapers are at Mid-Manhattan and The Research Libraries.

• Fordham Library Center: 2556 Bainbridge Ave., Bronx, NY: Largest branch in the Bronx.

Other major New York collections are accessible using METRO cards. If both Fordham and the New York Public Library do not own the material you need, you may apply to the Reference Desk for a yellow pass to a library that owns a particular item. You may also apply for a blue pass to a library with strong holdings in your subject area. Many museums and learned societies maintain libraries. Ask a reference librarian about them.
