Back-to-School Checklist for Law Adjunct Faculty

Professor Directing Class

Below is an overview of the procedures leading up to the First Day of Classes. All questions can be directed to Audrey Glassman unless otherwise indicated.

If you are an Adjunct teaching a Clinical, Legal Writing, or LL.M. course, please check with those departments for alternative instructions.

    • Submit Course Proposal and Teaching PlansNew Adjuncts coordinate their teaching plans directly with Audrey Glassman at [email protected]. Returning Adjuncts submit their teaching plans directly into LawNET. See the JD Curriculum Guide for examples.
Upon review of submitted plans, the Adjunct Teaching Committee and Academic Dean will review, and the final approved draft schedule will be circulated.
    • Verify Class Schedule — When the Class Schedule is released, verify your availability and make sure any co-teachers are listed. See also Academic Calendar.
    • Guest Lecturers:
A co-teacher is distinguished from a guest lecturer, in that the latter generally only teaches 1-2 class sessions, and has a specialization that supplements the course requirements.
Guest lecturers may include a law librarian or a WestLaw/TWEN representative providing a refresher workshop on legal research for a course that requires a term paper. If the primary instructor is unexpectedly out 1-2 class sessions due to an illness or emergency, last-minute substitutes are generally considered guest lecturers as well.
Guest lecturers do not have to submit employment forms, and can be signed in by the primary instructor at the Security Desk. Guest lecturers arriving at the building alone should coordinate with the Law Security Desk in advance at 212-636-6975.
    • Submit Employment Forms — After the Class Schedule is released, employment forms are mailed out. See Employment Forms.
    • Manage Adjunct Web Profile — To create or update your adjunct web profile, complete the Web Update Request Form. You may also send a photo and a paragraph bio to [email protected] for posting.
    • Submit Course Materials — Be sure your course description is up to date prior to the semester registration.  Submit new or revised course descriptions to Audrey Glassman, [email protected].
    • Post your semester syllabus, include your courseware needs (WestLaw TWEN, or Blackboard) prior to the start of the semester on LawNET. For posting assistance, contact Owen Grey, [email protected]
    • Activate AccessIT ID — About 2 weeks after employment forms are submitted, New Adjuncts will receive an email from [email protected] containing your Fordham email address, the beginning of which makes up your AccessIT ID needed for Fordham web tools. New Adjuncts must activate their AccessIT ID by visiting My-Pages and following the instructions for "First Time Users."
    • Upload Syllabus and First Class Assignment —  Upload your Syllabus and First Class Assignment into LawNET, the Law School's Intranet, in order for it to be retrieved by students via LawNET. See sample Fall 2013 Syllabus Template.
    • Manage your Courseware — You should have received your courseware login information for TWEN, LexisNexis, or Blackboard, and can begin posting materials for your students.
    • Submit Copying Requests — Email documents to be copied and specifications to Owen Grey. Most projects require a minimum 24-hour turnaround, if not more for the first week of classes.
    • Coordinate Classroom Technology — If you will require classroom technology or class recordings, please contact Media Services.
    • I.D. Card — You should receive your I.D. Card in the mail at least 2 weeks before the first day of classes. You will need your I.D. Card in order to enter the building.
