David N. Ellenhorn
Adjunct Professor of Law
David N. Ellenhorn is currently a Senior Trial Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General of New York, where he specializes in the enforcement of New York’s securities fraud laws.
Mr. Ellenhorn is a graduate of Brown University (magna cum laude) and Yale Law School. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office in 2007, he practiced litigation in both government and private firms, for over forty years. During that time Mr. Ellenhorn was an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia (1964-67) where he prosecuted a broad array of criminal cases; and Chief Counsel to the New York State Commission of Investigation (1979-81) where he investigated public corruption and related matters.
In 1981, Mr. Ellenhorn co-founded Stein, Zauderer, Ellenhorn, Frischer & Sharp, a prominent litigation boutique, and for some twenty years thereafter he handled many significant cases in the areas of commercial litigation, securities, anti-trust and libel. In addition he represented scores of law firms in disputes involving legal ethics, malpractice, discrimination and other issues. While at Stein Zauderer Mr. Ellenhorn was lead counsel in several landmark pro bono cases involving disputed elections, protection for students with AIDS, and the First Amendment rights of students.
In 2002 Mr. Ellenhorn joined Proskauer Rose where he continued his practice until he joined the Attorney General’s Office.
Mr. Ellenhorn has taught seminars in trial practice at Yale Law School and New York University Law School, and in 2009 he was a Visiting Professor of Arbitration at Vilnius University, in Lithuania. In addition he has lectured at seminars and programs sponsored by the Practicing Law Institute and the Federal Bar Council on a variety of litigation related topics. He is a member of the American Law Institute and served on several committees of the Association of the Bar of New York City.
