Adjunct Professor of Law

Judge Sergio Jimenez was born in Costa Rica. He attended McGill University in Montreal and graduated with a dual degree in Philosophy and English Literature. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2005. He has been admitted to the New York bar since 2008.

Judge Jimenez began his housing court journey at Bushwick Housing & Legal Assistance where he went from law clerk to director of the program. In 2013, he founded the Civil Justice Practice at the Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) allowing criminal, immigration and family clients to receive in-house help with interconnected problems dealing with public benefits, civil forfeiture, housing and other areas of the law. During his tenure at BDS, he received the City Bar Association’s Legal Services Award in 2018.

Judge Jimenez was appointed as a housing court judge in September of 2018 and assigned to Queens County. He was transferred to Brooklyn in January of 2023 and how now sat in resolution, HP, hybrid and trial parts. He is proudly a co-chair of OCA’s Advisory Committee on Access for People with Disabilities.
