Michael Guo joined Fordham University in 2022. His research interest focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and executive compensation. In the area of CSR, his research aims to understand the interplay between firms and their institutional environment (such as the federal government, mutual fund investors, and auditors). In the area of executive compensation, his works investigate how macroeconomic factors (e.g., international trade and tariffs) affect CEOs’ relative performance evaluation, and how complexity in CEOs’ compensation contracts negatively affects firm performance. At the intersection of executive compensation and CSR, he examines the institutional factors behind the recent resurgence of interest in using CSR performance measures in CEOs’ compensation design.
Professor Guo earned a Ph.D. in Management (Accounting) from Questrom School of Business, Boston University. He received his M.B.A. from Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, and his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University in China. He also worked for seven years in the financial services industry in both the private and public sectors, in auditing, investment banking, and grant management.
