Inaugural NSA Cyber Exercise for the National Centers of Academic Excellence 2022

Seven M.S. in Cybersecurity students competed virtually in the National Security Agency (NSA) hosted, inaugural 2022 NSA Cyber Exercise for the National Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE-NCX), April 11th-13th. The team completed objectives designed to develop and test cybersecurity skills, teamwork, planning, communication, and decision-making. The Fordham team included students: Samin Yasar, Angelina Zaccaria, Jose Bataller, Ghaith Christian Annabi, Jakub Czaplicki, Ray Tischio, and Sean Page.

CyberSEED 2022

Two M.S. in Cybersecurity students competed virtually in the CyberSEED 2022 competition, on March 26th. The competition team completed numerous challenges which spanned a range of topics: reverse engineering, web application security, network traffic analysis, cryptography, etc. The competition was hosted by the University of Connecticut (UCONN), in partnership with Synchrony. Hack The Port 22 - Maritime And Control Systems Cybersecurity Con

Four M.S. in Cybersecurity students competed virtually in the Hack the Port 2022 competition, March 21st-25th. The competition team completed red team challenges in a maritime port setting, while rivaling blue team competitors from other universities. The competition was hosted by the Maryland Innovation and Security Institute (MISI), in partnership with US Cyber Command. The Fordham Red Cyber team included students: Ghaith Christian Annabi, Angelina Zaccaria, Jakub Czaplicki, and Katrina Arenas. More information about this competition can be accessed here.

November 2, 2018 - A team of four M.S. in Cybersecurity students from Fordham competed at the NYC Cyber 9/12 Challenge, hosted by Columbia University. The competition challenges students from a variety of disciplines, including Computer Science, Political Science, and International Policy, to provide analysis and policy recommendations on fictional cyber threat scenarios. Fordham's team consisted of Christopher Kohlios, Megha Anand, Kristen Griggs, and Alessandro Baccarini.

NYC Cyber 9/12 Challenge 2018

Published CVE

July 19, 2018 - Peter Ivezaj, President of Digital Upkeep and recent graduate of the Fordham Cybersecurity program, has published a CVE pertaining to an authentication flaw in VMWare Horizon DaaS (Desktop as a Service). CVE 2018-6960 is an authentication flaw that may allow an attacker to bypass two factor authentication with a legitimate account on Horizon DaaS. VMWare's information security group was contacted and promptly issued a patch for the vulnerability. Ivezaj emphasizes the need to know your own devices and services thoroughly, proactively adapting your system design for security. He has been inspired by "a spirit of excellence in the atmosphere at Fordham, with collaboration amongst information security peers, intelligence community professionals, academic researchers, and full time students." Dr. Thaier Hayajneh, Director of the Fordham Center for Cybersecurity, states "We are very proud of this accomplishment by one of our students. Identifying new vulnerabilities is a difficult but critical contribution for advancing the field of cybersecurity."
